Jimmy Howes
It seems like Jimmy Howes has been on WALL Radio forever! Well, it happened like this: At an early age - in the 70's, Jimmy would fire up his CB radio with 4,000 milliwatts on channel 19 and pretend he was Cousin Brucie playing the hits. Entertaining late night truckers on Route 80 in New Jersey, he got in trouble because one night he made up a traffic report and redirected all traffic through the Lincoln Tunnel instead of the George Washington Bridge. Well, one thing led to another, and the trucks couldn't all fit through the tunnel and it got plugged up. The next morning, Jimmy's neighbor, Elaine McGurk saw the news of the traffic jam at the Lincoln Tunnel and she called the local police and reported she heard Jimmy interfering through her TV the prior night when she was trying to watch Alfred Hitchcock on channel 9. The local police called the FCC and they showed up the following night, just when Jimmy's dad, Mr. Howes, was sitting down to read the paper in his favorite Sears recliner. Jimmy got called downstairs and admitted to everything he had done.... and as a punishment, his father took out his belt..., well, you can figure what happened next. The FCC, being the FCC and all, also made Jimmy write "I will get my FCC license and get a job at a real radio station to play music only and I will never do any traffic reports" 10,000 times - in cursive - and send to them. Four days later he went to the post office and sent 347 pages to the FCC and then they let him off. But not his dad - his dad told him to get a job, and that is when he showed up on the steps of the Castle in Middletown, NY in 1981 to ask Jim Frey for a job or else his dad was going to kick him out. Jim was in a good mood because it was Freyday and he hired Jimmy on the spot.
Jimmy eventually got more work in the financial field, working at a bank, and then as a bill collector. That was Jimmy's sweet spot - He had so much success as a bill collector. Using an alias of Jim Rocco, he got a voice changer kit from Heathkit, and made his voice sound really deep. As a result, he won every contest at work for collecting the most money. He saved up, bought a K-car and put a CB radio in it, but only used it to broadcast through the PA speaker. That is how he met Margie and because of the money he saved up, they got married and went all out to have a super reception - no expenses barred - at the Fiesta in Rutherford, NJ.
Jimmy has 4 grown children, two brothers and one sister. The entire family shows up at Jimmy's mom's house every Sunday for a lovely Spaghetti dinner and a game of Parcheesi.
And after all these years, Jimmy remains on WALL Radio, entertaining millions every night playing the hits (but never giving a traffic report)
